Designed at Brown University in January 2014, and launched through the Swearer Center for Public Service's Social Innovation Fellowship, the organization has grown to include students from across the Ivy League working to improve their campuses for all first-generation college students!

Anthony is a Freshman at Brown University, excited to experience his first year of college. He joined Brown's 1vyG team in order to explore specifically how different a first-generation student's college experience is different. Originally from Chicago, Anthony currently plans on studying Biology but is open to new ideas. When he is not buried with work, he enjoys terrible puns and excessive pop culture references.

Alexis Rodriguez-Camacho is a Freshman at Brown University from Watsonville, CA double concentrating in Urban Studies and Environmental Science. He joined 1vyG because he cares about the availability and promotion of first-gen resources. Also, Bridge to Terabithia broke his heart.

As a first-generation college student, she wants to change the experiences and difficulties that first-gen students undergo during their college years. Ashley Urrutia is a sophomore at Brown University from New York concentrating in Public Health. She wants to alleviate the transition of first generation college students given the unique obstacles they face. Favorite movie: 500 days of Summer.

Fernando Ayala Vaca Maywood, CA (Los Angeles) 2017 Environmental Science I care about 1st ten issues because I did not have family members to help me with my college process and so I want to provide help to other 1st gen students so that they don't feel overwhelmed with a new setting. Floripa Olguin is a Junior at Brown University concentrating in Public Policy. She is involved with 1vyG in order to create impactful change for first generation college students. In her free time. Floripa comes from a big family of eleven and five pets.

Guadalupe Morales is a senior at Brown University from Richmond, CA concentrating in Health and Human Biology who's very passionated about health and education. She's interested in doing first-generation work because she feels Brown lacks a visible first generation group on campus and hope that she can be a part of that change. She is slightly overly obsessed with pugs.

He enjoys playing the viola and fencing in his free time. James will often go into his neuroscience lab to clear his thoughts and let his mind wonder around.

She is originally from the Dominican Republic and came to the United States when she was 14 years old. She is interested in first-gen issues because, as a first generation student herself, she would like to help create a community among first generation students and give them the support that she has received ever since she moved to the United States. She is also a huge fan of comic books and graphic novels–and considers Batman the best superhero ever created.

Michelle Cruz is a Freshman at Brown University from Miami, Fl. She is planning to concentrate in Chemical Engineering or Applied Math Biochemistry. She is enthusiastic on helping first-generation college students feel at home in a new environment. She also loves drinking water and hopes to one day see a sloth in person.

In November of 2013, she became the inaugural president of the First Generation Student Union at Harvard, an organization that promotes pride and support around the first-gen identity, helps first-gen freshmen navigate the college-life, and advocates for more institutional support. Her passion in addressing first-gen issues comes from her own personal experiences in not feeling supported by her institution and being able to relate to the experiences of her first-gen peers. She also loves speaking portuguese.

Victoria Chavez is a proud first-year from Chicago pursuing applied mathematics and computer science at Brown University. As a first-generation student herself, she is interested in helping other first-gen students overcome some of the obstacles she has had to face as well as helping form a strong community of bright and talented first-generation students.

As a first-generation college student, Natalie understands the difficulty of explaining her college experiences to her family back home, so she wants to help other first-generation college students through the hardships created by language barriers. Fun fact: She, her mother, her father, and her older sister were all born in different countries.
